I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under the supervision of Jennifer Boswell, Ph.D., LPC-S, NCC, RPT. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston-Downtown and my Master of Education in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Houston-Victoria. My education and training have equipped me to counsel individuals, groups, couples, and families with an array of needs and concerns.
My main objective of counseling is to assist clients in discovering and utilizing their own personal strengths and weaknesses to process through and overcome their challenges. It is my goal to not only empower clients, but to also help guide them along their journey in embracing their sense of self. I believe in a Cognitive Behavioral Approach to counseling which is a short-term, goal oriented, practical treatment that helps people learn how to identify and change destructive or disturbing patterns of thinking that negatively influence their behaviors and emotions. When necessary, I also utilize other theories of counseling such as Solution Focused Therapy, which is a goal-directed approach focused on solutions rather than problems.
I enjoy working with teens, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulty with social relationships, and other individualized issues. I also enjoy facilitating support groups for depression and bipolar disorder, in addition to psychoeducational groups aimed at teaching social skills, stress management, positive thinking, and anger management.
My experience spans from working with individuals in crisis situations in the Jail Division with the Houston Police Department, to providing supervised counseling to teens and adolescents in a private practice setting. My experience also includes case management observation, and developing curriculum for intervention activities and skills to foster independence for clients with mental illness at the Gulf Bend Center’s Wellness Community in Victory, TX. Through my experience I have gained invaluable proficiency in working with persons of varied ethnic, racial, sexual orientation, and religious backgrounds, and respect the views of each individual client.
